Role Overview

The Solutions Architect is responsible for developing solutions to technology and business problems using architecturally sound methods. The Solutions Architect will work closely with IT management, business, vendors and client stakeholders to gather requirements, prepare options and recommend a solution that will meet the objectives.

The Solutions Architect will foster an environment that allows for innovation and product designs through continuous improvement in technology and process design, promoting overall effectiveness and efficiency of the delivery process and helping to assure solutions that provide world-class scalability, performance, extensibility and an exceptional end user experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Provide Solutions for business and information technology needs    
        ◦Ensures that innovation strategies are translated into implementation plans that have a sound architectural foundation consistent with the overall business goals and objectives
        ◦Consults with business stakeholders, product and project managers as well as other architects and technology leaders on technology and product vision and roadmap
        ◦Acts as a key contributor to all facets of the solution from a technology and architectural standpoint e.g. analysis, high level design, vendor selection, knowledge transfer to delivery         and support teams        
        ◦Performs high level technology requirements analysis, provides input to solution summaries and other Solutions deliverables
        ◦Ensures that interoperability capability, performance and scalability, reliability and availability, application lifecycle, technological risks are all addressed in the solution

•Provide architectural and technical input for the BGRS Information Technology team
        ◦Applies industry architectural and technology standards and methodologies to the overall SDLC process.
        ◦Respond to requests and evaluate recommended approaches from the Solutions Architecture point of view
        ◦Work closely with senior IT management to gather their input on solutions

•Support Architecture and architectural approaches
        ◦Understand, advocate and augment the principles of information technology strategies.
        ◦Sell the architecture process, its outcome, and ongoing results to IT through effective communication and influencing skills
        ◦Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards, as well as the design of standard software configurations.

•Support business case process for new business initiatives
        ◦Contributes to RFIs, RFPs and score cards for use in the vendor selection phase of Solutions and other project initiatives
        ◦Develops and/or provides input into the technology related sections of Business cases
        ◦Work with IT Delivery and other project stakeholders to coordinate proper handoff of solution into the delivery process
        ◦Provides ongoing Solution Architecture and review support during the delivery phase

Qualifications:
•Bachelors degree in Information Technology
•7+ years’ experience in a senior information technology role such as an architect, senior systems analyst or lead software developer.
•5+ years of related job and/or sector experience
•5+ years developing scalable web solutions for commercial use
•Experience developing responsive highly secure applications supporting sensitive data solutions
•Strong understanding of responsive frameworks
•Strong commercial experience delivering mobile applications to both iOS and Android platforms

•Familiarity with standard architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, Gartner.
TOGAF 9.1 certification would be an asset.
•Knowledge of all components of an enterprise technical architecture.
•Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies.
•Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design
•Extensive experience delivering web services (REST) utilizing JSON and OData
•Ability to conceptualize complex ideas into the key artifacts required to develop architectures that are consistent with organizational enterprise architectural standards

•Current technological skills (hardware, software, database, security, network, infrastructure, telecommunications, Internet). It is expected that the candidate will maintain and enhance technological skillset as part of his normal activities.
•Technology leader able to rapidly absorb multiple inputs and develop an understanding of business problems that enable the creation of an application architecture

•Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes
•Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.

•Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
•Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements.
•Ability to think from an end-user’s point-of-view in terms of application usability, performance and configuration
•Ability to estimate the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives.
•Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
•Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
•Ability to work with minimal supervision

•Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
